1. The library supports you and your children and cares about your needs.
- When I wanted a movie the library didn't have, I casually mentioned it to the person checking me out. A few weeks later, the library purchased the movie.
- The library is more than willing to listen to your needs and try to meet them by adding new technology or materials.
- They have tons of great online resources, including blogs, podcasts, pathfinders (these spell out where to find information on specific topics), and, of course, dedicated staff there to help you with any problem.
- Book discussions, how to classes (including knitting), technical literacy classes (learn Word or Excel), story time for your children, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and many more activities for holidays or just for fun!
- You can find out about these activities and others on GPL's main page!
- Computers (you can use these even if you don't have a library card)
- Books (fiction, nonfiction, children's, teens, etc.)
- Movies (DVDs, VHS)
- Audio Books (on CD or on tiny audio players)
- Book review blogs to help you choose your next book
- Pathfinders to help you find resources on specific topics
- Evergreen system - the ability to get resources from TONS of libraries all over Indiana! If GPL doesn't have it, you can still get it!
- How to classes or computer classes
- Community events or parties
- A safe community space to study or read in
Don't you want this wonderful resource to still be around for your kids? Wouldn't you rather your child sit at a library after school than be somewhere else?
Honestly, for the tiny amount of your tax money that supports the library, aren't there so many possible benefits for you, your children, and your entire community? Support yourself and your community by supporting your public library.
